Hundreds of thousands of men who saw heavy combat in Vietnam have been arrested since discharge. Their arrest rate is almost twice that of non-veterans of the same age. There are no accurate figures on how many of these men have incarcerated, buta Veterans Administration study concludes that the greater a vet's exposure to combat, the more likety his chances of being arrested or convicted. [Part One, 4:45 min.]

(Peter Thomas): This is the story of men who are victims of war.
They fought the longest war in American History.
They all saw heavy combat in Vietnam.
Although they were decorated for heroism, none of them received a hero's welcome.

[Instrumental]

N-N-N-N-19, 19, 19, 19, - 19

You see a lot of destruction. You see a lot of villages being burned; you know, people are being killed, You shoot into the bushes and you hear screams, and you know people have been hit. But to see someone get hit with a high-velocity stell jacket round - -  designed by people to kill other people, there is no more obscene way to die.

(Peter Thomas): Hundreds of thousands of men who saw heavy combat in Vietnam have been arrested since discharge. Their arrest rate is almost twice that of non-veterans of the same age. There are no accurate figures on how many of these men have been incarcerated, but a Veterans Administration study concludes that the greater a vet's exposure to combat, the more likety his chances of being arrested or convicted. They had B.C.'s that were 12 feet tall. They captured the 25th Infantry with a bag full of rocks. Everybody went after Ho Chi Minh with broken bayonettes. There were the baddest dudes I ever saw in my life.

I looked at this guy, asked him what to do. He'd been hit right below his eye. This side of his face was blown away. He was followin' as - - just- - standin'. And then kind of half turned and fell. And then kind of half turned and fell.

And then we came back and were different, and everybody wants to know what happended to those guys over there. There's got to be something wrong somewhere. We did what we had to do. There's got to be something wrong somewhere. And people wanted us to be ashamed of what it made us. They have no idea of where we have been 5, 10 years now. All we want to do is come home.

19.

Die schwersten Gefechte der letzten zwei Wochen
fanden heute 25 Meilen nordwestlich von Saigon statt
- 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19

Der US-Soldat in Vietnam
war durchschnittlich zwölf Monate dienstverpflichtet
Zwölf Monate fast täglich unter feindlichem Feuer
- 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19

Ein US-Militärsprecher gab heute in Saigon bekannt,
dass allein in der letzten Woche
700 feindliche Soldaten gefallen sind.
Im Grenzgebiet zu Nordvietnam
verlor der Feind insgesamt 2.689 Mann
- 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19

All those who remember the war they won't forget what they've seen.
Destruction of men in their prime whose average age was nineteen.
Destruction - destruction - destruction

[Instrumental]

In-in-in-in Vietnam war es 19
In-in-in-in Vietnam war es 19
19 19 19 19

Die schwersten Gefechte der letzten zwei Wochen
fanden heute 25 Meilen nordwestlich von Saigon statt
- 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19

Der US-Soldat in Vietnam
war durchschnittlich zwölf Monate dienstverpflichtet
Zwölf Monate fast täglich unter feindlichem Feuer

(Sprecher, Girl)
- 19 - 19 - 19 - Nineteen - 19 - - Nineteen - 19

Ein US-Militärsprecher gab heute in Saigon bekannt,
dass allein in der letzten Woche
700 feindliche Soldaten gefallen sind.
Im Grenzgebiet zu Nordvietnam
verlor der Feind insgesamt 2.689 Mann
(Schrei) - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 - 19 (Nineteen)

(Singing Girl)
All those who remember the war they won't forget what they've seen.
Destruction of men in their prime whose average age was nineteen.

(Spampling)
Dedededededede-Destruction - War, War War War
Dedededededede-Destruction - War, War War War

Nach einer Statistik der US-Armee
leiden mehr als 50% aller ehemaliger Vietnam-Soldaten
an schweren psychischen Schuldgefühlen und Selbstmordgedanken.
10 Jahre nach Rückkehr in die Heimat

Den Kampf gegen Vietnam!

19 - Nineteen - (Übersetzung engl.-dt., 1985) {text geprüft, 25.06.2007}
.

19 19 19

In Vietnam diente der kämpfende Soldat gewöhnlich
eine 12monatige Wehrpflicht ab
Aber war feindlichem Feuer ausgesetzt
Fast jeden Tag

19 19 19

In Saigon, sagte ein US-Militärsprecher heute,
wurden letzte Woche mehr als 700 Feindsoldaten getötet
in jener empfindlichen Grenzregion
In ganz Süd-Vietnam

an etwas, was die Psychiater
Posttraumatische Stress-Störung nennen
Viele Veteranen klagen über Entfremdungsgefühle,
Wutausbrüche und Schuldgefühle
Manche unterliegen Selbstmordgedanken

19, Saigon, Saigon, Saigon, Saigon, Saigon,
19, Neunzehn, Neunzehn, Neunzehn, Neunzehn

Vietnam, Saigon, Vietnam, Saigon, Vietnam, Saigon
Purpur-Herz, Saigon, Purpur-Herz, Saigon
